Raw Feeding
Feeding Cats the Natural way - raw Diet for cats and kittens (Week 8)
Week 10 - September 5, 2008

Here we are into Week 10 and entries have fallen by the wayside but then again, the entries were never going to be weekly anyway. The past couple of week's have simply flown by so very quickly and I am still thrilled to bits with our fur kids' progress on the raw diet.

I have been surprised to see a personality change with Amaretto. This girl's personality is not typical of the Havana cat in that she is extremely demure, rather quiet, and really is just an incredibly sweet little girl yet the raw feeding has brought out her dominant streak for lack of a better word. Not only has she become quite possessive at meal times, but she is also standing up for herself with the other cats. For example, if Rett Retts is sleeping and one of the other cats goes to disturb her, she will actually tell them off and will not tolerate any nonsense from anyone at all. This really is lovely to see. Also, she has gained so much more substance since being on the raw food. Amaretto has always been a tiny girl, very, very slender, but now, she has definitely bulked up, and when I pick her up, even though she is small, I am feeling such a huge difference and it now feels like I am holding a proper cat.

On the poo front, very little has changed in the respect that litter tray duty continues to be so much more of a pleasure now in the respect that the entire cat family all have perfectly solid stools and I am attributing this solely to the raw diet.

Before I forget, I must pop in a "thank you" to Rachel for taking the time to email and share her own raw feeding experiences and I learnt yet more about raw feeding from Rachel's email so thank you very much.

Even now, I can't believe how quickly our cat family have accepted their new feeding regime. It must have been so hard for them to have gone from having 2 commercial, wet, and home cooked meals per day, as well as having biscuits left down 24/7. It's also quite odd not washing and replenishing the biscuit bowls on a daily basis but I must say it's so nice to not be finding biscuits scattered across the floor on a daily basis :)

The raw feeding is still entertaining in the respect that all the fur kids do derive so much pleasure from chomping on their chicken wings and Nocello is the funniest of all because the minute she grabs "her" chicken wing, she omits the most terrifying growl, warning everyone else to stay away from her food. She hasn't yet realised that there is more than enough food to go around for everyone and that no one else is even interested in whatever meat she happens to have at the time.

One aspect I am struggling with is getting the cats to enjoy/eat any of the offal. I do only feed the offal twice a week but have to say that there is very little interest in it and am not really sure just how to convince all of them that they must eat it?

There probably won't be another entry now until we reach the 3 month stage unless anything out of the ordinary occurs in the meantime.
