Raw Feeding
Feeding Cats the Natural way - raw Diet for cats and kittens (Week 3)
Week 3 - July 27, 2008

Here we are, halfway through Week 3 so what has been happening? Quite frankly..................very little. Two days ago I thought we had another convert and was getting excited. At one of the evening meals a couple of nights ago, Sage decided that he would join the other raw eaters and he was really enjoying it and I was thinking "fantastic, another one". It would appear his interest was short lived though as he has not touched the raw since :(

As I type this entry, the majority of the cat family are all sprawled out in the sunshine in the cat run and I have to say that as I look at them, the coats on the raw eaters compared to the coats on the biscuit eaters, have an incredible sheen as the sun bounces off their fur. They are very content, very happy, and seem to be doing so incredibly well on the raw diet.

The biscuits are still not being replenished anywhere near as they used to be so I am presuming that the raw eaters are feeling quite satisfied with their 2 meals per day, and although I do still see them nibble at the biscuits now and then, it is certainly not to the same extent where they used to consume huge quantities of biscuits.

Ashanti is still the only cat who is able to thoroughly dispose of any bones and I have to say that this is particularly evident in his teeth which, at the moment, are incredibly white and quite sharp looking. I have now witnessed him devour chicken wings, half quails, meat, bones, and everything else. As you can imagine he is looking pretty darn good at the moment :)

End of Week 3 - July 29, 2008

As you can see, entries are very few and far between this week but then, unless we have any changes, there is no point in doing an entry really. Toussaint is definitely, definitely becoming one of the raw eaters now but she is quite funny about it. When I put the plates/trays down, the kids all come running, they all grab what they feel is the "best" meat bit in the trays, they drag their prey away slightly from the trays and start tearing into it. Toussaint, for whatever reason, seems to feel that she has to take her meat as far away from everyone else as possible. She sidles up to the trays, looks at everyone else, collects a bit of meat for herself (usually a piece that is containing bone also), she stabs it with one of her claws, slowly drags it off the tray towards her whilst still eyeing up everyone else. As soon as it's within her grasp, she quickly picks it up in her mouth and either leaves the room with it, or takes it to a little private place where she can spend the next 15 minutes or so eating.

I decided to try something a bit different today to see what would happen. I did not replenish the food bowls with the biscuits which meant that by the evening raw meal, there were not many biscuits left throughout the house and the reasoning behind this was that I was curious to see whether or not this would convince anyone else to try the raw. Sure enough, Ice and Sage, both tucked into the raw meal last night and this really did surprise me because up until this point, neither of those 2 would have anything to do with it. This doesn't mean that I am going to remove the biscuits yet though because it is still too early to do that.

So at the end of Week 3, the raw eaters are: Ashanti, Amaretto, Nocino, Nocello, Amaro, Tuaca, Afrikoko, Kamora, Frangelico, Izarra, Parsley, Cointreau (but she doesn't eat it at every meal), & Toussaint. This isn't bad for only Week 3 as we now have 13 of our cat family who will eat the raw. You may have noticed that TP is no longer included in this list and that is because he left home today bless him.
